After having owned 2 of the A100 and a Rebel XT I wanted to see what a pro style camera had to offer. The changes to the control layout from the A100 to the A700 are so much better you will never miss the second knob. I actually traded one of the A100's and kept the other for a daughter. The Canon was the first to go! A far as IQ it will be hard to beleive that it could be that much better than the A100 but the low light sensor, twice as fast autofocus, and smooth - fast shutter plus 2 more megapixels really make it work. The image just seems to have more depth and less flatness. This camera really loves the vertical grip accessory and so do I. Setting manual white balance is the only real change I make from lens to lens and indoor to out and by doing so the JPEG quality is so good that shooting in raw is much less than what I needed to do on the A100. The dynamic range really works better than I ever saw with the JPEG format before on the A100 and controls white burnout much, much better. Yeah it was a lot of money but it is really worth about what it cost in what it can do. PS the view finder will probably hook you on first look anyway!!!
