Overview

Developed to succeed the EF75-300mm f/4-5.6 II, which was marketed in 1995, this compact, lightweight high- magnification telephoto zoom lens covers medium telephoto 75 mm to super telephoto 300mm. Like the EF75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM, it has a metal ring at the front of the zoom ring to give it an upscale image. It uses a DC motor as AF drive actuator. The optical system and controls are the same as those of the EF75-300mm f/4-5.6 III USM. For environmental protection, only lead-free glass lens elements are used.

This lens is good because it's cheap and still takes clear pictures. First of all, if you use a tripod, pictures will come out great. If you're just taking it by hand, you must be really steady because otherwise it makes the pictures extra bright and some detail blurry. Besides that it's a great lens being non USM. The focus does take a little longer than the standard lens, but it's MUCH more quiet. If you have the money, go for the lens with Image Stabilization because that makes a huge improvement in the picture details and quality. Being only 16, it's hard to get a good amount of money. Thankfully this lens takes pictures from far away from when you want to get close to nature from far away.

I am new to the Cannon D20, I have found it to be reliable, even when I am not. Lots to learn but still get great pics. My 10 year old son has the eye for photography, we just need to learn the more complicated settings. We are both thrilled to learn this new stuff

I bought this lens to use with my Canon 20D. I am a long time Canon user, have been a professional corporate advertising photographer, and expected the lens to be up to the usual excellent Canon standards. The images I got were basically good, and sharp enough for a lens in this price bracket, but after a couple of years I started getting very erratic behavior and error messages when using this lens. After trying every setting available to counteract the error messages, the mysterious "error 99" I took it to a repair shop and they corroborated the fact that this lens was causing the problem. So why does Canon make a lens that is not compatible with a (when new) $1600 dollar Canon digital camera and becomes completely useless? It is now just a paperweight and would cost more to repair than replace. My Canon F-1 35mm film camera I bought in 1973 still works fine and all the Canon lenses I got for that camera work fine. I am now looking at other brands of zoom lenses because I no longer trust Canon quality, which is upsetting since I have long been a Canon user and advocate. It also seems that Canon is getting ridiculously high priced for their pro quality zoom lenses.

Know I have a totally different picture style with this len. The quality of imagens are amazing compared with the 18-55mm len, that is soo poor.
