Lens Summary

Overview

This lens has a huge Image circle of 900mm, which still leaves space for camera movements to correct perspective and to increase Depth of field (according to the Scheimpflug principle) even with the fine art size of 20 x 24 inches. However, the lenses are not only unsurpassed in this respect: these exceptional lenses also literally open up a new chapter in fine art with regard to imaging quality. The crispness which drops gently but distinctly toward the edge in the older designs remains brilliant and perfectly uniform over the whole image field at full aperture.

A high-quality broadband multi-Coating effectively reduces stray light, ghost images and other reflections for enhanced Contrast and incomparable detail reproduction into the shadows. Filter threads at the front and rear permit simultaneous use of two filters (e.g. polarization filter at the front and a yellow filter at the back) without the otherwise potential risk of double imaging of bright points of light.

In order to achieve maximum sharpness, reproduction of detail, and richness of tonal values, many serious photographers worldwide are opting to use very large cut-film formats between 8"x10" and 20"x24". The Schneider Fine Art XXL lenses are specially designed to address these demanding formats, with focal lengths from 550 to 1100 mm. Both lenses are distinguished by outstanding optical properties, such as low distortion, evenly high Resolution over the entire image circle of 900mm and large adjustment reserves, even with the popular 7"x17" and 8"x20" panorama formats.

The 1100 XXL lens is optionally available with the Copal 3 shutter with the maximum aperture of F22, or with a cylinder body with plug-in diaphragms, a maximum aperture of F14, and flange mounting. The smallest diaphragm opening is in each case F128. In addition, all XXL lenses have a filter thread in front and in back. The new XXL product line is the result of exclusive, small-scale manufacturing. This commitment to detail is further indicated by the fact that each lens's initial owner can have his or her name engraved on the nameplate ring of the elegant brass mount at no charge. (Future owners may have the same done at cost.)

The high quality of the large format image can immediately be seen by looking at a picture taken using a large format lens. It will have the brilliance, full detail, precision, and sharpness that can only be achieved using this photographic medium. Most importantly, Schneider large format lenses are top-quality lenses that meet all the demands of the photographic industry. In large format photography there is no rigid connection between the lens and the film, compared to that of the small and medium formats. The free movement of lens and film standard enables better correction.
