A Large-aperture-wide-zoom lens from 20mm with large F2.8 aperture
SIGMA has created a new 20-40mm lens with F2.8 hroughout its zoom range, from ultra-wide 94.5 degrees to near-standard 56.8 degrees Angle of view, for photographers to shoot more creatively from various angles and zoom perspectives. With a fast F2.8 maximum aperture superior peripheral Brightness is ensured. This lens is perfectly suited for indoor shootings even in dim light without worrying about blurring in photos. These features also make this lens desirable for use with Digital SLR Cameras.

30cm minimum focusing distance throughout the zoom range The lens' 30cm minimum focusing distance is useful for closeups, giving photographers plenty of capability to use the zoom to adjust composition and concentrate on detail, as desired. Maximum magnification is 1:4.6. A short focus distance and a minimum aperture of F22 provides greater Depth of field.
Aspherical lens compensates for Aberration Aspherical lens elements in front and rear lens groups compensate for astigmatic and Spherical aberration, respectively. By reducing aberration to an absolute minimum, this SIGMA lens overcomes a major impediment to zoom lens performance.
Sophisticated, yet simple to use Among the practical high-performance features of the lens are DF (Dual Focus) mechanism for optimal handling stability during autofocus operation; a wider-than-conventional focal ring for superior manual focusing operation; and an Inner focusing system that eliminates front lens rotation during focusing, and allows use of the standard petal-type hood accessory, which is excellent at blocking out extraneous light.

This is a sizeable lens, though it's suprisingly lightweight, given the constant f/2.8 maximum aperture. Once set, the focus is a really smooth, fluid action and the autofocus quickly latches on to the subject. This lens offers superb results once stopped down and the lack of distortion will appeal to many. This is a good option for a serious armature that does mind the extra overall size.

I love this lens and use as my primary walk around lens for street photography. It has very little distortion and sharpness is on par with most primes in its focal range. I do not know why more people did not go for this lens.

I love this lens. I use it as primary walk around lens. It produces minimal distortions and sharpness is on par with most primes in the same focal length. This lens is a steal and I am surprised not many people have tried it out.

I have used this lens as primary walk around lens for street photography and it has not let me down. I would say it is on par with most prime lenses in the focal range. I like the slip clutch transition from manual to auto focus mode. As always Sigma has the competition beat by supplying a case and hood with the lens. It works well for indoor no flash photos. If you do use flash make sure it is an external flash and not the one built into the camera because the diameter of the lens will cast a shadow on the subject. The macro function of this lens is excellent it allows for some really perspectively creative shots to be captured. I love this lens, it is a keeper.
