I'm completely new to the DSLR world and I've added this lends to my new alpha200 camera. I'm super happy with the results this lens gives me, sharp, noiseless, and strong colors. I don't agree that the zoom takes that long. It's not in millisec, but it doesn't disturb. I'm very happy.

First let me explain my con... The lens seems to be lightly construvted due to the palstics uses, but with today's plastics sometimes being stronger than lightweight metals I wish to not have the Con here heve more effect than it should. In reality, this lens has served me well in all respects and I am very happy with it. When I bought my A-350 I got the 18-70 and this lens so my range is pretty much a converted 27-450mm. I have no issues with the lens or it's performance so far. At this point I would say that I don't think you could go too wrong with this lens.

Prequel: I am coming from a strict Nikon background and due to having my $4000 kit(D80, 3 VR, 3 2.8 pro lenses, etc) stolen out of my car, am starting all over again. That being said, I don't have $4000 to plop down at once, so I decided to get an "entry to mid-level" system and after many internal battles, decided to try something different and go with the Alpha system. My thoughts were if things didn't work out with this setup, I haven't spent that much and could use it for a carry-around camera. So far I see absolutely NO reason to go back to Nikon. Yes, this system is THAT good.
Sony 75-200mm f/4.5-5.6 Lens: Wow. I sincerely cannot BELIEVE this lens is only $229! As many reviews point out, this lens has virtually ZERO distortion from 75mm all the way up to 300mm and purple fringing(CA) is contained nicely. Needless to say, for a lens at this price point to preform this well is unheard of. This lens combined with the super quick AF of the a200 is a perfect marriage. I compared this to the super sharp Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8 VR, and although the Nikon is a Bit sharper and performs better in low light, the IQ difference is surprisingly small. I can highly recommend this lens and the Sony Alpha system as a whole!

Nice starter lens to get long ranges but does not perform well in lower light, as it was not designed to. I got this with the ALpha 200 kit for an extra $100 and it was worth that for sure, but if you are spending $200 or more, I would go with a walkaround lens 28mm to 300mm, you'll use it more and can usually find something decent for around $300.
If you are getting as an add on and are on a budget, this is a great lens and will fit lots of situations.

I have the identical Konica Minolta version of this lens. It is a very nice lens and since it is fairly small and light and not too expensive, perfect for travel if you need a tele zoom. Uses common less expensive 55mm filter size.

This lens is way bigger than I thought is was going to be but, it is everything I was hoping it would be. Great zooming capabilities, fantastic picture quality. In one word, WOW. Sony has never let me down, I will continue to buy their products, they're worth every penny you spend for them. The camera I bought this lens for (Alpha 350 ) is teriffic also. Put the two together and I've got a great setup. Through Amazon, I got the lens quickly, packed well, and it didn't cost me an arm and a leg.Sigma 70-300mm F/4-5.6 DG Macro Telephoto Lens for Minolta and Sony SLR CamerasSony Alpha DSLRA350K 14.2MP Digital SLR Camera with Super SteadyShot Image Stabilization DT 18-70mm f/3.5-5.6 Zoom Lens

This is only telephoto lens I have, so I can't compare it to anything. The thing I noticed is that autofocus in low light is very slow (1-2 seconds, sometimes even more), and sometimes it doesn't even manage to get a focus. The good thing is that is has pretty large manual focusing ring, which is easy to use, much better (wider and much more to rotate) than on standard 18-70 that came with Sony camera kit. In good lighting conditions it focuses almost as fast as 18-70.

The lens arrived quickly and in perfect condition. This product is of excellent quality. The entire purchase process was easy and efficient and the price beat the competition by a large amount. I'm very satisfied with the product and the distributor. I'm looking forward to using this lens in Antarctica.

I don't really know what to say here. I've only used it once, shooting a wedding with a friend. It did well.
As far as ordering through Amazon it was here promptly, as usual, and I've had no problems mechanically.

For its money its a great lens. Just have in mind that -Autofocusing in close distance, 2-5 meters, the lens is slow (and sometimes it doesn't even manage to focus).
-When using 200+mm the pictures come out soft, and at 300mm its sometimes too soft to even try sharpen the picture when editing them.
- Loss of depth in the pictures (Well thats not a bad thing since its a telephoto lens)
