DESCRIPTION SPECIFICATIONS

The new Tokina AT-X 107 DX is a full-frame fish-eye lens that gives the photographer a 180&Mac176; field of view with dramatic Curvature of field or “fish-eye” effect. With this lens an entire view or vista can be captured, wider than the human eye can see. The AT-X 107 opens an entirely new dimension of photography.

The front element of the AT-X 107 DX has a newly formulated WP or “Water Proof” optical Coating on the glass. This new coating makes marks such as spots left by water or finger-prints much easier to clean than standard multi-coating.**

The rear optical group of the lens contains 1 SD (Super-Low Dispersion) glass element to reduce the number of elements (pieces of glass) in the optical design in order to make the lens more compact, light-weight and faster focusing.

I use this one a lot. I primarily shoot action sports and a fisheye is a must! The best feature about this lens it that is zooms. But unlike most ASP-C zooms which don't cover a full frame sensor at any focal lenght, this one actually expands the image size as it zooms. So it is 100% usable as a diagonal fisheye at 14-15mm on a full frame format. So you get a 10mm crop lens and a 15mm FF lens.
That said, it would be great if the lens shade (the little flaps around the front lens) would be removable. That would even get you a third lens, a 10mm circular fisheye for a FF format. You get a square crop if you set it to 10mm on a FF. Square because you can actually see the lens shade in the image.
The lens build is very strong. I have bumped it here and there. Once quite hard:a swing with the weight of the nikon D2h against a metal pipe. It impacted on the lens shade. No damage to the lens.
The AF is sharp, fast and accurate, but the lens is set to infinity most of the time, seeing that infinity starts at around 40-60cm.
There are chromatic aberrations (mostly purple fringing) at strong highlight edges. The CAs are restricted to corners of the image and seem to be worst at 10mm, and get better down the zoom. At 15mm on a FF the image almost CA free.

All around i like this lens a lot. A good buy.
Why should you care what I think?

Excellent fisheye lens, the most beautiful thing is that it has zoom capability.
With my CANON 20D Body i have to use it at 10mm to get the maximum fisheye effect but still little Bit less than 180 degree of the view on this body due to the 1.6 crop factor.
But on the full frame bodies (starting from 14mm) and 1.4 crop factor (at 10mm) bodies it's perfect.
Any way I think it's the best choice for those who have body with crop factor.
Image quality is great, with sharp shots, and the coating is perfect ,no flares, BUT there is few chromatic aberrations at the edges and at the highlight spots, it's acceptable, and can be corrected by Photoshop easily, and still your photos are published even if didn't correct it.
The Auto focus is accurate and work perfect, the Manual focus is very soft which i didn't like, but you don't need Manual focus most of the time for this lens.
Finally i recommend this lens for any body who like the fisheye effects and who search for super wide angle shots, with any Canon EOS Body.
