Do you want to take better pictures? Are you tired of ugly photos? Well then continue reading this article!

A "good photo" is usually referring to a photo that is compositionally beautiful. A good photo has the following characteristics:

1. Balanced

2. Pleasing to look at

3. Proper use of colors

Now, all of those three are in your control when taking pictures. This article will cover the aspect of balance in your photo. Pleasing photos are made from a proper balance. The use of colors is something not covered in this.

Balance:

When I say balance, I also mean the use of imbalance as well. Photos that are not balanced or properly unbalanced are not good photos. Balance is another word for saying the way your compose your image.

To create a good shot you need to be sure that you place the subject of interesting in a good spot. For example, if a person is looking to the left and it is a side shot of their face then a bad photo would have their nose touching the edge of the photo and lots of space on the other side of the face. You need to have some "breathing room" for the area that the subject is looking towards.

There are some very obvious ways to achieve balance in your photos. One way is to use "symmetrical balance". This is basically like cutting an orange in half and having two identical sides. In this balance one side is the same as the other. Of course, it doesn't have to be identical. You could have two people staring at each other and use balance. Both people won't be identical, but it will be balanced.

Another use of balance is the asymmetrical balance. This is basically balancing the photo from the depths of the field. For example, if you have a vase very close to the camera on the left side then you could balance it with a tree in the background on the right side.
